Health, Energy, and Decarbonisation
How can healthcare systems decarbonise without first knowing their footprint? This session explores how baselining and life cycle assessment (LCA) are reshaping how health systems measure and manage emissions. Featuring the global launch of a new healthcare LCA platform, we look at how clinicians and healthcare workers can uncover the emissions behind everyday product and clinical process, empowering them to make data-driven, low-carbon choices.
This programme spotlights two major sustainability initiatives: the Global Mitigation Potential Atlas (GMPA) and MOYA Cascade. It demonstrates how data-driven tools and collaboration can reduce the cost and complexity of the green transition at both the national and organisational levels through international and inter-organisational cooperation, respectively.
This session highlights the Factory-in-Factory (FiF) Waste-to-Energy Technology, an innovative pyrolysis and gasification solution that transforms industrial biowaste into renewable energy, biochar, and bio-oil. By preventing methane release from landfills or open burning, FiF directly mitigates greenhouse gas emissions and supports industrial decarbonisation.
Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR), including Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE), is a promising frontier in ocean-climate innovation. This session gathers global experts to share research on OAE’s mitigation potential, environmental safety, and monitoring, fostering collaboration and informing future governance frameworks.
Despite ambitious net-zero pledges, a significant gap remains between decarbonisation goals, actions and achievement. This expert panel will bring together policy, business and technology leaders to discuss the role and importance of digital technology in achieving a net zero emissions future. They will explore the digital climate “tech stack”: technologies that work together to collect, connect and use data for effective and trusted decarbonisation (e.g. cloud and edge compute and storage, APIs and data standards, IoT and instrumentation/ meters, AI/ML, blockchain/ distributed ledger, digital twins and advanced simulations). Key challenges to technology deployment (e.g. energy consumption, interoperability, scaleability) will be addressed along with proposed solutions.
