Restoring Degraded Native Thicket Biome in South Africa

The restoration of native species facilitates ecosystem recovery, enhances biodiversity, sequesters carbon and benefits local communities.

To drive native restoration efforts, GenZero, a Singapore-based investment platform company focused on accelerating decarbonisation, partnered with Imperative, a Singapore-headquartered global carbon project developer, to implement Imperative’s first ecosystem restoration project in South Africa.

By replanting spekboom, a native succulent, the project targets to restore up to 100,000ha of degraded land at full scale. Spekboom helps to restore ecosystem functionality and biodiversity by facilitating the return of other native plant species and fauna.
