Olam Agri

Boosting Food Security in Nigeria Through Seeds for the Future

Olam Agri’s Seeds for the Future (SFTF) programme, a CSR initiative, was introduced in 2021. It has been designed to support farmers and farming communities, improve education and skills development, empower economically disadvantaged women, promote health and nutrition and enhance environmental sustainability.

As part of the programme, the company committed over ₦6.5 billion (approximately US$4.08 million) to a four-year development plan. This investment will support Olam Agri's operations in various sectors, including rice, wheat milling, animal feed and cotton, from 2024 to 2028, and educational grants and agricultural support to benefit communities.

Transforming the Cotton Value Chain with Regenerative Agriculture

Cotton, a vital global crop, faces growing risks from climate change and complex supply chains.

In response, Olam Agri launched the world’s largest certified regenerative agriculture programme for cotton in Côte d’Ivoire and the US, with Australia and Brazil to follow.

Since 2020, this initiative has helped farmers improve soil health, sequester carbon, manage water and energy use and enhance biodiversity. Olam Agri achieved full regenagri® certification for its Côte d'Ivoire cotton, covering more than 250,000ha of land, 20,000 farm enterprises and two ginning facilities that process 100,000MT of seed cotton, setting a global standard in cotton sustainability.

Working with Farmers to Transform the Global Rice Value Chain

Rice is a vital part of global food security, providing a fifth of global calorie intake and supporting nearly a billion livelihoods. However, smallholder rice farmers face challenges like climate change and limited resources.

Olam Agri, a global food and agribusiness, has been leading a transformation in sustainable rice farming since 2015. Through partnerships with public and private sectors, it is working to enhance rice farming resilience in India, Thailand and Vietnam.

Collaborating with GIZ and other global organisations, these initiatives reduce greenhouse gas emissions and boost farmer incomes, making sustainable rice commercially viable and educating farmers on climate-friendly techniques.
