Blue Catalyst: A Blue Carbon Innovation Challenge

Supported by EDB, WWF and Hatch Blue will be organising the Blue Catalyst: A Blue Carbon Innovation Challenge in 2026.

Blue carbon ecosystems are powerful carbon sinks that offer many co-benefits. However, many of them are highly threatened and projects to protect or restore blue carbon ecosystems are often complex and risky.

Blue Catalyst is the first open innovation challenge dedicated to tackling critical technical implementation and MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) barriers in blue carbon projects. Designed to advance technologically enabled solutions across Asia and beyond, the challenge will connect asset owners and project developers of blue carbon projects with global innovators. By bridging the gap between on-the-ground needs and cutting-edge innovation, Blue Catalyst empowers solution providers—including startups—with funding, expert mentorship, and pilot opportunities to bring tools and technologies to life.
