Greening Our Energy & Chemicals Sector

The Energy & Chemicals (E&C) sector is Singapore’s second-largest manufacturing sector. Against the backdrop of the global energy transition, the sector is now undergoing significant transformation to stay sustainable and competitive.

At the heart of Singapore’s E&C sector is Jurong Island (JI), a world-class integrated park home to facilities of over 100 leading global E&C companies. In October 2025, Singapore launched a new vision for JI to be a low-carbon innovation hub, to drive growth in specialty chemicals and sustainable materials, and function as a testbed for new energies and low-carbon technology solutions.

Under this new vision, JI will play a key role in shaping Singapore’s sustainable manufacturing operations and energy transition. In July 2025, French specialty chemicals company Arkema opened its largest global facility in Singapore, dedicated to manufacturing advanced biopolymers made entirely from renewable castor beans. Various consortiums are also working on a cross-border carbon capture and storage project from JI, to capture and store around 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030.
