Solar Panel Deployment

Solar is currently the most viable renewable energy source for Singapore, which lacks access to most forms of renewable energy.

To maximise solar deployment in our highly urbanised environment, conventional rooftop solar has been complemented with innovative solar deployment on spaces such as water bodies, temporary vacant land, building facades, and sheltered walkways. For example, Singapore has deployed a large-scale 60 megawatt-peak inland floating solar photovoltaic (PV) system at Tengeh Reservoir in 2021, and is looking to set up more large scale solar PV systems at other reservoirs. We will also explore more pilots of Building-Integrated PV and Building-Applied PV on building facades.

Through these efforts, we have achieved our 2025 target of deploying 1.5 gigawatt-peak (GWp) of solar ahead of schedule, and are on track to deploy at least 2GWp of solar by 2030.
